Letters to Fifth Graders from current Orchestra Students

Dear Fifth Grader,

You should join orchestra--it's the best!  You get to do something that would make you unique because not everyone plays a violin, viola, cello or bass.  You also get to see a side of yourself that you've probably never seen before--your awesomely cool professional self.  At first you might not understand, but then when you go to the first concert and see the Philharmonic and Symphony Students (those are non-beginner groups) play you'll totally want to stay in orchestra forever.  They totally rock!  Plus, you will have so much fun along the way.  So take it from me--orchestra rocks and you will not regret it if you join!

Sincerely,

Rebecca, a sixth grade violinist

Dear Fifth Grader,

For my elective in sixth grade, I chose orchestra.  I think it is really cool to learn how to play a stringed instrument.  It is a lot of fun to learn to read notes and play really cool songs.  All of the instruments sound great too!  My favorite is the viola or cello (I play viola).  The viola is slightly bigger than the violin and makes a lower sound.  In orchestra you also meet new friends.  I hope you choose orchestra!

From,

Maddi, a sixth grade violist

Dear Fifth Grader,

You should join orchestra.  First, it is really fun.  The songs sound so cool and you feel so proud of yourself when you learn something new.  It is easier than you think!  Plus you get to go on fun field trips.  Just join orchestra!

From,

Anthony, a sixth grade violist

Dear Fifth Grader,

I want to talk to you about joining orchestra.  It is the most fun thing because you get to do concerts, you learn how to play an instrument and you have incredible teachers.  They will help you in anything you need.  I know that in sixth grade you have a lot of choices, but encourage you to join orchestra.  You might think it's lame, but it's not--it is SO cool.  I hope you join orchestra!

Sincerely,

Narda, a sixth grade cellist
